Quail Run RV Park Review

Posted on July 7, 2021 by Rick Posted in Campgrounds .

We had just spent a couple weeks in the desert and need to do laundry, empty our tanks, and refill our fresh water. Wow, that sounds familiar. Anyway, we were driving down the road in Quartzsite, Arizona and were amazed by all of the RV parks that they were mostly empty. The sign for Quail Run RV Park caught our eye and we called the number. So glad we did.

The Quail Run RV Park was a very nice and clean facility. The girls played some of the outside games while we took care of business.

We would definitely be willing to stay here again.

Pirate’s Den Resort Review

Posted on June 30, 2021 by Rick Posted in Campgrounds .

We stayed at Pirate’s Den Resort in Parker, Arizona because we need to do laundry, empty our tanks, and refill fresh water before we went out in the desert for a couple of weeks.

We has multiple issues with this place. Please watch the video for details.

We will not stay here again.

Beatty RV Park Review

Posted on June 16, 2021 by Rick Posted in Campgrounds .

We ended up staying at Beatty RV Park because our camper is too big for the campgrounds at Death Valley National Park. In case you did not know, the campgrounds at most national parks were designed a long time ago at a time when most campers were smaller. Since we were on the Nevada size, we looked for an RV park or campground in the nearest town.

Beatty RV Park was packed each night and, except for the weekend, mostly cleared out each day.

The Beatty RV Park is very basic but does have showers and a laundry facility. The best part about the park is that it is only $25 per night which includes electric, water, and sewer at each site. The owner/manager was a really nice guy and liked to chat.

If you plan to visit Death Valley National Park from here, be sure to fill your fuel tanks in Beatty. You will save at least 30% compared to the fuel stations in Death Valley.

REVIEW Washoe Lake State Park

Posted on June 9, 2021 by Rick Posted in Boondocking, Campgrounds .

Washoe Lake was a fun little surprise that we found at the spur of the moment.

We do not plan a bunch. We just drive for a little while and then start looking for a place to stay. We look for free camping first, then cheaper state or national parks, and then private campgrounds are last on our list

The campground at Washoe Lake State Park had recently remodeled one of the loops to include water and electric at each site. We did not get into the water at the lake but it was a nice peaceful place to stay for a few nights. We would gladly stay here again.

Gold Ranch RV Resort Review

Posted on June 2, 2021 by Rick Posted in Campgrounds .

We cut our California trip short fleeing the fires. We drove until we got tired and then looked for a campground. We located one just across the Nevada border near Reno.

We got one of only two sites available. The place was packed and a roaming security guard helped get us situated.

The park itself was very clean and had nice amenities. We were able to walk over to the restaurant for breakfast which was a welcomed change.

Elizabeth had fun walking back and forth from Nevada to California. A tiny bit of the campground was in California according to Google Maps. We included screenshots in the video.

REVIEW Manchester Beach KOA

Posted on May 26, 2021 by Rick Posted in Campgrounds .

We chose Manchester Beach KOA mostly because it was the only place available on the coast in the area that we wanted to stop. There were other campgrounds but none had sites available for larger campers. In case you have not figured it out yet, we do not plan too far in advance.

This KOA had some really strange looking trees that are stunning. Elizabeth said the one of them reminds her of the monster in the TV series Stranger Things.

We were here at the end of the tourist season and the place was fairly empty most of the time.

Be careful driving here with a bigger rig/camper. Their website says to to come over one of the mountain passes due to a steep grade. Well, driving down Highway 1 is really winding road and our trailer bumper dragged a couple times on some of the sharp corners. There are many pullout spots where you can see the coast so pay attention to the road. It is a long drop-off.

REVIEW Redwood Coast Resort

Posted on May 19, 2021 by Rick Posted in Campgrounds .

We were visiting Eureka, California because we wanted to see Mom’s aunt and uncle that live there.

The plan was to stay at the fairgrounds but… let’s just say that we did not feel safe.

Her aunt suggested the old KOA but she did not know the name. A quick search found Redwood Coast Cabins and RV Resort. And like all RV resorts, there is more to do but the sites are so tiny.

The staff was so nice. We planned to stay 3 nights and decided to stay another 3 nights. They suggested making it a week total and applied the first 3 nights to the weekly price. Most places will not do this.

It is a good location to branch out and see many of the local tourist attractions.

REVIEW Cape Blanco Campground

Posted on May 12, 2021 by Rick Posted in Campgrounds .

We are so glad that we decided to stay at Cape Blanco State Park Campground. We chose it based on the distance from our last stop and the fact that there is a lighthouse. It so beautiful.

There is a beach access point but it is a long walk. We drove to the beach but could not get our big truck past the rocks and driftwood in order to drive on the beach. We could have made it but our truck is too long to make the tight turns. Hehe… we tried.

The campground is very nice and most of the sites have privacy. Several sites will allow larger campers with ease. Each site has electric and water but no sewer. The only negative part is that the dump station is permanently closed. It is an older system that no longer meets California guidelines. You can dump at Humbug Mountain State Park that is not too far away south.

REVIEW Alder Dune Campground

Posted on May 5, 2021 by Rick Posted in Boondocking, Campgrounds .

We found Alder Dune Campground in the Siuslaw National Forest and thought it would be near some sand dunes along the coast. Well, it all depends on how you define “near”. In this case, the campground has a 2 mile trail that leads to the dunes and the shoreline. We drove into Florence to access the beach.

The campground was really quiet. We were there at the end of the season. There were quite a few day use visitors daily especially on the weekend.

The location is great if you are wanting to visit any of the nearby tourist locations or want to drive along the coast. The views are amazing.

REVIEW Midway RV Park

Posted on April 28, 2021 by Rick Posted in Campgrounds .

The only reason we stopped here at Midway RV Park is because we wanted to visit Mom’s cousin that lives in the area. It, however, is a very nice RV park with a friendly staff. We stayed an extra day so that we could get an Amazon package delivered.
