Golden Canyon – Death Valley National Park

Posted on August 24, 2021 by Rick Posted in Scenery, Sightseeing .

Let’s hike the Golden Canyon in Death Valley National Park. We expected the canyon to be narrower than it was. Amber and Kaylla act very silly on the way.

We were lucky that we decided to go to Death Valley National Park in early November because it was not too hot.

This is part of our Season 3 Part 2 and was filmed in the second half of 2019.

Wahkeena Falls in the Columbia River Gorge

Posted on August 19, 2021 by Rick Posted in Scenery, Sightseeing .

We started our day in the Columbia River Gorge planning to visit the popular Multnomah Falls and planned to visit other waterfalls in the area.

The third waterfall that we came across was Wahkeena Falls. Wahkeena Falls is a beautiful waterfall and was not too crowded. It is located along the very scenic road that runs parallel to the highway. Just a short hike uphill needed for this one.

This is part of our Season 3 Part 2 and was filmed in the second half of 2019.

Badwater Basin – Death Valley National Park

Posted on August 17, 2021 by Rick Posted in Scenery, Sightseeing .

But it’s a dry heat.

We were lucky that we decided to go to Death Valley National Park in early November. It was just above 70 degrees at Badwater Basin which is 282 feet below seal level. The highest temperature recorded here is 134 degrees. This is the lowest point in North America.

The Salt Flats are covered with salt because all of the water has evaporated.

Redwood National and State Parks

Posted on August 10, 2021 by Rick Posted in Scenery, Sightseeing .

We were looking for Fern Valley (we found it) in the Redwood National and State Parks and we found a small group of elk near the shoreline. We also found a large herd of elk near Elk Meadow.

The first waterfall that we came across was Horsetail Falls. Horsetail Falls is a beautiful waterfall and was not very crowded. It is located along the very scenic road that runs parallel to the highway. No hiking needed for this one.

While we were here, a film crew setup and did a music video with Horsetail Falls in the background. It was kinda cool to see.

Columbia River Gorge

Posted on July 29, 2021 by Rick Posted in Scenery, Sightseeing .

Columbia River Gorge was beautiful and we made a day out of it. We spent the day doing short hikes and visiting many waterfalls.

This video shows part of the drive as well as Bridal Veil Falls and the Vista House. Both had amazing views. The Vista House is out on a point with views both ways down the river and it was a bit windy that day.

This is part of our Season 3 Part 2 and was filmed in the second half of 2019.

Roosevelt Beach Access Pacific Ocean

Posted on July 22, 2021 by Rick Posted in Scenery, Sightseeing .

Today we finally reach the Pacific Ocean and we complete our name of Living Coast 2 Coast. We did this at he Roosevelt Beach Access location in Washington state. We have now been to the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and all of the Great Lakes within the United States.

We got here late in the day. We found a bunch of Sand Dollars and some of them were still alive. Mom was the only one of us to see one alive before but she lived in Hawaii for 4 years when she was young.

There were cliffs just a short ways back from the shoreline. It was obviously low tide and there was plenty of sand. We were amazed by the amount of large trees along the shoreline. It was a new experience for us.

As you can see, the sunset was gorgeous.

This is part of our Season 3 Part 2 and was filmed in the second half of 2019

Volunteer Park – Space Needle Not Required

Posted on July 15, 2021 by Rick Posted in Sightseeing .

We wanted to go to the top of the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington. We did not want to spend the very high price for entry for a family of five.

Lisa did some research and found that Volunteer Park had a water tower was just as high. And it had stairs to the top. Needless to say, we thought the view from the tower was beautiful and actually included the Space Needle.

Volunteer Park also was full of weirdly shaped trees and many friendly squirrels. Join as as we explore.

This is part of our Season 3 Part 2 and was filmed in the second half of 2019.

A Hiking We Will Go at Franklin Falls Trail

Posted on July 8, 2021 by Rick Posted in Scenery, Sightseeing .

Franklin Falls is an awesome waterfall located between the eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 90 in Washington State. Join us we take the mile long hike to Franklin Falls.

The hike was not very hard but is not handicap accessible. Mom’s knee was bothering her and this is why she did not go with us.

The trail starts at creek level but then climbs a bit and ends back at creek level. The falls themselves are accessible and has a pool area that you could play around or possibly swim if the weather is warm enough. It was a rainy day and a bit chilly so we did not get into the water.

This is part of our Season 3 Part 2 and was filmed in the second half of 2019.
